About

At age 15, I was in my room thinking about how to get the songs in my head and play them on an instrument???

On my bedroom wall hung an acoustic guitar my father bought me to play at church, but it had been collecting dust for the past two years. I also had a guitar book with tabs on my top shelf. That day, I decided to teach myself this instrument by all means possible, so I grabbed my guitar and lesson book and dusted them off.

My first try wasn't the greatest—my strings were rusty, and my fingers were entangled—but I persevered. After a few lessons on YouTube, I learned some good fundamentals of guitar but still couldn't articulate what was constantly playing in my ears.

I started playing electric guitar in church and sat at the back of the worship band with my amplifier playing at low volume—imagine, I was a shy electric guitarist—a funny oxymoron. Only when I went to University, at age 19, did I meet a good friend who played bass. He taught me the art of playing by ear, which opened up a world of understanding of how theory was related to what I constantly heard (in my head) each time I picked up the guitar.

I then taught myself how to listen to music and outline the numbers associated with the chord progressions. This simplified music for me to the point where I could focus on just worshiping God as I played at church. It also helped me communicate with other band members on different instruments, as we spoke a universal language - THE NUMBER SYSTEM.

Now, I am a worship guitarist proficient in electric and acoustic guitar with 15 years of experience. I desire to share this with those who want to embark on the journey of worshipping on this simple but powerful stringed instrument. Just like David, who played a stringed instrument for King Saul in his season of torment that brought him peace (1 Samuel 16:23). May this be your weapon of praise and worship for healing unto yourself and others.
